ReferenceSystems Operation, RENR2223, "Oil Renewal System"

The Oil Renewal System (ORS) is a software enabled attachment that can be purchased with the machine or installed by the dealer after delivery. The ORS is enabled via the Factory Password System (FPS). The ORS should stay with the machine for life whether the system is purchased with the machine or installed by the dealer at a later date.

Engines that are replaced during machine overhaul see the ORS attachment removed when the old engine is removed. The dealer must then get a factory password in order to activate the ORS for the new engine when the system is installed in the machine. With the current system this means that every machine with the ORS will require a claim to be processed in order to reimburse the dealer for reactivating the ORS on that machine.

New software for the engine and chassis now transfers ownership of the ORS from the engine ECM to the chassis ECM. The new strategy functions as follows:

Old Engine Software and New Chassis Software - The ownership of the installation status remains in the engine ECM and the installation state remains as is.

New Engine Software and Old Chassis Software - If the ORS is installed on the engine ECM, the ORS remains installed on the engine ECM and owned by the engine ECM. If the ORS is uninstalled on the engine ECM, then the ORS becomes unavailable on the engine ECM and is not allowed to be changed to installed. This scenario will require an update to the software flash file for the chassis ECM in order to allow the ORS to be installed in the chassis ECM.

New Engine Software and New Transmission Software - The engine ECM "owned" installation state becomes unavailable. The Transmission ECM "owned" installation state becomes whatever the engine ECM "owned" installation state was prior to the update of the software flash files.

In order to transfer the ORS ownership to the chassis ECM, the existing engine in the machine must have been previously set to "INSTALLED" in the engine ECM. If the engine was not previously installed, factory passwords are required for activation. With the ORS system status set to "INSTALLED" in the engine ECM, the new engine and chassis software flash files should be installed in the ECMs. After flashing, upon the next powerup cycle of the machine electrical system, the ORS installation status will be transferred from the engine ECM of the machine to the chassis ECM. Verify the ORS installation status in the chassis ECM by looking at the chassis ECM configuration parameters. Subsequent engine ECM changes will not affect the ORS installation status in the chassis ECM. Likewise, installation of a reman or new engine in the machine will not affect ORS installation status in the chassis ECM, if the proper engine ECM flash file is present on the replacement engine.

Note: In the event the chassis ECM is replaced on a truck that has had ORS installed, the factory passwords will be required in order to reinstall the ORS in the chassis ECM.

The software flash file part numbers for engines with the ORS identity changes are in Table 1. The 332-5691 Power Train Software Gp is the corresponding software flash file for the chassis.
