Service Magazine SEPD0944, 09 June 2008, "The Control Assembly is Updated in the Cab". Disregard this article. See the replacement article that follows.

Description of Change: A new control assembly is now used in the operator station. The new control assembly contains a more rugged mechanism for the cable. The new mechanism for the cable will reduce the force that is needed in order to operate the control assembly. This will prevent damage to the dash panel.

Adaptable To: The new 237-2303 Heater Control Gp is a direct replacement for the former 156-4451 Cable As. The new cable assembly is part of the 117-5276 Cab Heater Gp, the 137-0026 Air Conditioner Gp and the 149-3037 Instrument Panel Gp. The new cable assembly will help prevent damage to the 125-3367 Panel. The new cable assembly is adaptable back to the beginning of production for the above listed machines.

Use the following procedure in order to install the new cable assembly.

Table 1
Serviced Parts of the 237-2303 Heater Control Gp
Item     Qty     Part Number     Description
1     1     314-3256     Heater Control Gp
2     1     236-9772     Cable As

  1. Remove the former 156-4451 Cable As from the cab.

  1. Assemble the new 236-9772 Cable As (2) into mounting location (4) that is on the temperature control valve. Tighten bolt (3) .

  1. Before you attach the cable assembly, rotate the shaft on the new 314-3256 Heater Control Gp (1) fully in the counterclockwise direction to the cold position. This will enable you to achieve the correct length of the cable that is required in order to actuate the control assembly.

Note: The knob from the former cable assembly may be required to help rotate the control assembly to the fully extended position.

  1. Rotate the temperature control valve (5) counterclockwise to the fully closed position.

  1. Release clip (6) that retains the cable by pushing the tab that is located on the rear of the actuator in the direction of the arrow. Save the clip.

Note: When you release the clip, place your hand around the front of the control assembly. When you release the clip, the clip may jump from the control assembly.

  1. Pull the inner wire of the cable assembly toward the pin on the lever arm. The loop of wire should be short of fitting on the pin on the lever arm by 3 to 5 mm (0.12 to 0.20 inch) (7) .

Note: This gap ensures that the water valve is completely closed when the temperature control knob is in the position for maximum cold. If the gap between the loop of wire and the pin is not 3 to 5 mm (0.12 to 0.20 inch), adjust the position of the cable housing in order to obtain the correct gap. Then, install clip (6) from Illustration 4.

  1. Install the control assembly to the dashboard. Restrain any wires (8) that may interfere with the operation of the control assembly.
