Disassembly Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the air control valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Control Valve (Service Brakes) - Remove".

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

1. Remove bolts (1) and cover (2).

2. Remove valve assembly (3).

   Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure. Spring force will be released when covers are removed. Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.

3. Remove snap ring (4). Remove piston (5). Remove O-ring seal (6) and O-ring seal (7) from piston (5).

4. Remove spring (8) and cap (9) from plunger (10).

5. Remove bolts (11) and cover (12).

6. Remove O-ring seal (13) from cover (12).

7. Remove cotter pin (14) and remove pin (16). Remove lever (17). Remove bolts (15) and cover (18).

8. Remove boot (19), plunger (20), and stop (21) from cover (18).

9. Remove shim (22).
   Show/hide table

10. Remove nut (23) and retainer (24). Remove spring (25).

11. Remove retainer (32), washer (31) and rubber bushing (30) from piston (28).

12. Remove piston (28) and spring (27) from case (26). Remove O-ring seal (29) from piston (28).

13. Remove piston (35) and spring (37) from case (26). Remove washer (36) from bolt (33). Remove bolt (33) from piston (35). Remove O-ring seal (34) from piston (35).

14. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove snap ring (38). Remove valve assembly (39) from case (26).

15. Remove snap ring (40). Remove piston (42). Remove O-ring seal (41) and O-ring seal (43) from piston (42).

16. Remove spring (44) and cap (45) from plunger (46).
