Remove Rotor Clutch

Start By:

a. remove rotor clutch drive shaft

NOTE: If an optional spray system is installed, the spray system hydraulic pump and lower sheave will have to be removed.

1. Move the clutch handle (1) to engage the clutch.

2. mark for identification, then disconnect the electrical wires running to the clutch neutral start switch (2).

NOTICE

Do not use the clutch output shaft or yoke shaft as a lifting point.

3. Attach a lifting device to the clutch housing and take the slack out of the lifting lines.

4. Remove the clutch mounting bolts (3).

NOTICE

The clutch should be moved straight back from the flywheel housing to prevent damaging the clutch facings and pilot bearing.

5. Move the clutch back from the flywheel housing until the clutch input shaft is clear of the flywheel.

6. Move the clutch straight up out of the mainframe.

7. Remove two drive ring mounting bolts (2).

8. Loosen the remaining bolts just enough to connect a lifting device to the empty bolt holes.

9. Remove the remaining bolts, then move the drive ring (1) away.

Install Rotor Clutch

1. Attach a lifting device to two empty drive ring bolt holes.

2. Move the drive ring (1) into position on the flywheel.

3. Install the mounting bolts through the empty bolt holes far enough to hold the drive ring in place when the lifting device is removed, but loose enough to remove the lifting device.

4. Remove the lifting device.

5. Install the remaining two mounting bolts (2).

6. Tighten the drive ring mounting bolts.

7. Attach a lifting device to the clutch housing

8. Lower the clutch into position at the rear of the flywheel housing.

9. Check that the facing disc teeth are aligned with the drive ring teeth. If the teeth are not aligned, rotate the clutch output shaft to align the teeth.

10. Move the clutch slowly forward until the clutch is in contact with the flywheel housing.

11. Install the mounting bolts (3).

12. Move the clutch handle (1) to disengage the clutch.

13. Connect the electrical wires to the clutch neutral start switch (2).

End By:

a. install rotor clutch drive shaft

Disassemble Rotor Clutch

Start By:

a. remove rotor clutch

1. Remove the clutch handle.

2. Bend lock tab on lock away from nut (1).

3. Remove the nut and the lock.

4. Insert lifting bolts into the two tapped holes in the clutch body (2) and attach a lifting device to the lugs.

5. Lift the clutch straight up and off the shaft.

6. With the release sleeve (3) up, place the clutch on a suitable workbench.

7. Remove the retainer rings from the clevis pins.

8. Remove the clevis pins from the links (4) and the levers (5).

9. Lift the complete sleeve assembly from the clutch assembly.

10. Release the adjustment lock (6).

11. Rotate the adjustment ring counterclockwise to remove the adjustment ring assembly.

12. Remove a retainer ring and clevis pin, then remove the lever (7) and lever spring. Repeat for the other two sets of lever assemblies.

13. Lift the pressure plate (9) from the clutch body (8).

14. Remove the facing disc sections (10), then remove the center plate (11) and the second facing disc sections.

Assemble Rotor Clutch

1. Check the facing disc sections (10) for wear on the driving teeth and burning and scoring of the friction surfaces. Replace charred or badly scored facings as a unit.

2. Check the thickness of the facing disc sections and replace as necessary.

Reference: For proper facing disc section thickness, see SPECIFIAVSIONS, RR-250 AND SS-250 VEHICLE SYSTEMS, Form No. KEBR1239.

3. Inspect the clutch parts.

a. Check the pressure plate (9), center plate (11), and clutch body (8). Friction surfaces should be smooth and free of heat checks and cracks. Drive bosses of the splines should be free from notches and worn spots.

b. Check the adjusting ring and clutch body threads for excessive wear.

c. Check all lever, toggle pin, and pin holes for wear and roundness.

d. Check adjusting lock for wear and sufficient spring tension to hold adjustment ring in place.

e. Inspect release sleeve and mating surface of release bearing for wear.

4. With the hub end facing up, place the clutch body (8) on a bench.

5. Place on the hub: the facing disc (10), center plate (11), and the second facing disc.

6. Place the pressure plate (9), friction surface down, on the second facing disc with the pressure plate drive splines in mesh with the hub drive splines.

7. Install the levers (7), springs, and pins.

8. Securely clamp the retainer locks to the pins.

9. Lubricate the threads of the adjusting ring, then install the ring on the clutch hub.

10. Heeding the match marks, place the two release bearing halves (12) together over the shoulder of the release sleeve (3).

11. Install the bolts and locking nuts.

12. Position a link (4) on each side of a lug on the release sleeve.

13. With the head of the pin (13) facing the direction of clutch rotation (counterclockwise as viewed from the output shaft), insert the pins through the links and pin holes of the release sleeve.

14. Install the retainer locks on the pins.

15. Repeat steps 12 through 14 for the remaining release sleeve lugs.

16. Place the release sleeve assembly on the adjusting ring with the links down and in line with the levers.

17. With the head of the pins facing the direction of clutch rotation (counterclockwise as viewed from the output shaft), install the pins through the links and levers.

18. Secure the pins with retainer locks.

19. Tighten the adjusting ring just tight enough to hold the friction plates in place when the clutch is engaged.

20. Insert lifting bolts into the two tapped holes in the clutch body (2) and attach a lifting device to the lugs.

21. Lower the clutch assembly straight down onto the shaft.

22. Install the lock and nut (1).

23. Bend the lock tab on the lock up against the nut.

24. In order to properly align the facing discs, place the drive ring over the clutch assembly.

NOTE: To keep the facing discs properly positioned, do not disengage the clutch until the clutch has been installed on the machine.

25. Install the clutch handle.

26. Engage the clutch.

27. Remove the drive ring from the clutch assembly.

End By:

a. install rotor clutch
