Remove Screed Extension
1. Start the engine and raise the screed off the ground.
2. Extend the extension halfway so that the extension is balanced on the sliding mount (1).
3. Lower the main screed and the screed extension onto blocks and stop the engine.
4. Being careful not to scratch or score the horizontal tubes (2), attach a lifting device to the tubes on each side of the sliding mount.
5. Remove the vertical tubes (see "Remove and Install Sliding Mount Vertical Tubes").
6. If the left extension is to be removed, thoroughly clean around the solenoid hose connections and ports (3), mark the connections for identification during reinstallation, then disconnect the hoses.
7. Otherwise, thoroughly clean around the extension cylinder tube connections and ports (4), mark the hoses for identification during reinstallation, then disconnect the cylinder tubes. Cap or plug all openings immediately.
8. Disconnect the glow plug electrical connection (5).
9. Disconnect the diesel fuel line (6) from the extension burner assembly. Plug the end of the fuel line.
10. Thoroughly clean around the hose connections and ports of the extension vibrator motor (7), then mark the hoses for identification during reinstallation.
11. Disconnect the hose connections. Cap or plug all openings immediately.
12. Lift the extension just enough to provide clearance with the main screed.
13. Move the screed extension outboard until the extension is clear of the main screed.
Remove Horizontal Tubes And Sliding Mount
Start By:
a. remove the screed extension.
1. Remove the screed extension cylinder.
2. Position the sliding mount near the center of the horizontal tubes.
3. Being careful not to scratch or score the horizontal tubes, attach a lifting device to the tubes on each side of the sliding mount.
4. Mark the position of the upper (1) and lower (2) nuts on the adjustment rod (3), then remove the rod.
5. Remove the mounting bolts (4) from the horizontal tubes (5).

6. Using a plastic or rubber headed mallet if necessary, move the tubes out the front of the screed extension.

Disassemble And Assemble Horizontal Tubes And Sliding Mount
Start By:
a. remove the horizontal tubes and sliding mount.
1. Remove the horizontal tubes (1) from the sliding mount (2).
2. Press or drive the bushings (3) out of the sliding mount (2).
3. Check the bores to be sure they are clean and free of burrs. Remove any burrs with crocus cloth.
4. Being careful not to cock th bushings, press or drive each bushing into its bore.
5. Install the horizontal tubes into the sliding mount.
End By:
a. install the horizontal tubes and sliding mount.
Install Horizontal Tubes And Sliding Mount
1. Position the sliding mount (1) near the center of the horizontal tubes (2).
2. Being careful not to scratch or score the horizontal tubes, attach a lifting device to the tubes on each side of the sliding mount.
3. Move the sliding mount and horizontal tubes to the front of the screed extension.

4. Using a plastic headed mallet if necessary, move the tubes into position between the vertical plates.
5. Loosely install the mounting bolts (5) at both ends of the horizontal tubes (6).
6. Remove the lifting device.
7. Slide the sliding mount to the inboard end of the horizontal tubes.
8. Tighten the inboard mounting bolts (5) for each tube.
9. Slide the sliding mount to the outboard end of the horizontal tubes.
10. Tighten the outboard mounting bolts (5) for each horizontal tube.
11. Install the adjustment rod (3) and position the upper (1) and lower (2) nuts to the marks made when removing the horizontal tubes
12. Install the screed extension cylinder.
End By:

Install Screed Extension
1. Being careful not to scratch or score the horizontal tubes, attach a lifting device to the tubes on each side of the sliding mount.
2. Move the screed extension to the side of the main screed.
3. Move the extension inboard until the sliding mount (1) is aligned with the swivel mount (2).
4. Install the vertical tubes (see "Remove and Install Sliding Mount Vertical Tubes").
5. If the left extension is being installed, thoroughly clean around the solenoid ports and hose ends (3), then connect the hoses to the ports.
6. Otherwise, thoroughly clean around the extension cylinder ports and hose ends (4), then connect the hoses to the ports.
7. Connect the diesel fuel line (5) to the extension burner assembly.
8. Connect the electrical connection (6) to the glow plug.
9. Thoroughly clean around the vibrator motor ports and hose ends (7), then connect the hoses to the motor.
NOTE: The screed extension must be leveled at this time. The following steps give the complete guidelines for leveling the screed extension.
10. With the machine on a flat, level surface, extend the screed extension.
11. At the front of the side plate, measure the distance from the top edge of the side plate support to the ground (1). Note the measurement.
12. At the rear of the side plate, measure the distance from the top edge of the side plate support to the ground (2). Note the measurement.
13. If the front of the side plate is lower than the rear, loosen the nut (3) and turn the nut (4) until the distances are equal.
If the rear of the side plate is lower than the front, loosen the nut (4) and turn the nut (3) until the distances are equal.
Repeat steps 11 and 12.
Remove and Install Jack
1. With the screed supported on blocks, use the jack to lower the screed extension to its lower limit.
2. Remove the cotter pins (1) then remove the pin (2) which connects the jack to the sliding mount.
3. Unbolt and remove the jack (3) from the swivel mount (4).
4. Move the jack into position on the swivel mount and install the mounting bolts.
5. Install the pin and cotter pins which connect the sliding mount and jack.
Remove and Install Sliding Mount Vertical Tubes
Start By:
a. remove the jack.
1. Attach a lifting device to the sliding mount.
2. Unbolt the shaft retainer (1) from the swivel mount.
3. Slide the tubes (2) out the top of the swivel mount.
4. Slide the new tubes down through the swivel mount.
5. In order to position the lower portion of the tubes, lower the sliding mount and extension near the lower limit.
6. Bolt the shaft retainer to the swivel mount.
7. In order to position the upper portion of the tubes, lift the sliding mount and extension near to the upper limit.
End By:
a. install the jack.
Remove And Install the Screed Extension Front Wear Plate
1. Extend the screed extension.
2. Remove the capscrews (1).
3. Attach a lifting device to the wear plate (2).
4. Move the wear plate up and outboard until the plate is clear of the screed.
5. Move the wear plate away.
6. Attach the lifting device to the replacement wear plate.
7. Move the wear plate inboard and down until the plate is in position at the front of the screed extension, then remove the lifting device.
8. Insert rods (3) through the wear plate and into two of the empty holes.
9. Loosely install the capscrews.
10. Using the rods, raise and lower the wear plate until the bottom edge of the extension wear plate (4) is .7 to 1.3 cm (.25 to .50 inch) above the main screed wear plate (5). Tighten the capscrews.
11. Retract the screed extension.
Remove And Install the Screed Extension Nose Bar
Start By:
a. remove the screed extension front wear plate.
1. Support the screed on the screed locks.
2. Support the nose bar (1) and remove the nuts and lockwashers (2).
3. Lower the nose bar away from the screed.
4. Move the replacement nose bar (1) into position on the bottom of the screed, and install the nuts and lockwashers (2).
5. Lower the screed to the ground.
End By:
b. install the front wear plate.
Remove And Install the Screed Extension Bottom Wear Plate And Baffle
Start By:
a. remove the nose bar.
1. Lower the screed to the ground.
2. Remove the nuts and flatwashers (1) from the wear plate studs.
3. If the baffle (2) is to be removed, remove the baffle bolts, lockwashers, and nuts (3).
4. Start the engine and raise the screed no more than 2.54 cm (1 inch) off the ground.
5. If the wear plate (4) remained with the screed extension, pry the plate loose from the extension.
6. Support the screed on the screed locks.
7. Pull the wear plate and baffle from under the screed.
8. If the baffle was removed, move the replacement baffle into position under the screed.
9. Using two persons, raise the baffle to the screed and install the bolts, lockwashers, and nuts.
NOTE: Different sizes and number of shims and sizes of spacers are used on different studs. Transfer the shims and spacers as a group.
10. Place the shims and spacers (5) on the replacement wear plate.
11. Move the wear plate into position under the screed.
12. Using two persons, raise the wear plate into position on the screed and install the nuts and flatwashers.
13. Retract the screed extension.
14. Support the screed on the screed locks.
15. Align the screed extension to the main screed (see Remove and Install Bottom Wear Plate and Baffle, step 28).
End By:
a. install the nose bar.
Remove And Install Screed Extension Side Plate And Support
1. If a grade controller is installed on the support, remove the grade controller.
2. Attach a lifting device to the support.
3. Raise the lock (1) and remove the pin (2) from the end of the support.
4. Unbolt the upper blocks (3) from the end of the extension.
5. Move the side plate and support (4) away.
6. If necessary, remove the upper blocks from the support and bolt them onto the replacement support.
7. Attach the lifting device to the replacement side plate and support.
8. Move the side plate and support into position at the end of the screed extension.
9. Bolt the upper blocks to the end of the screed extension.
10. Insert the pin through the block and into the support. Lower the lock over the pin.
11. If the grade controller was removed, reinstall the grade controller.
Remove Adjustment Assembly Mount
Start By:
a. remove the screed extension.
b. remove the extension elevation control.
1. Attach a lifting device to the mount.
2. Unbolt and remove the shaft retainer (1).
3. If necessary, connect a chain or cable to the shaft (2) to aid in removing the shaft.
4. Take the slack out of the lifting lines, then remove the shaft.
5. Lift the mount (3) up until the mount is clear of the screed, then move the mount away. Be sure not to lose the spacer (4).
Install Adjustment Assembly Mount
1. Position the spacer (4) in the screed.
2. Lower the mount (3) into position between the spacer and the screed.
3. Insert the shaft (2) through the screed, the mount, and the spacer.
4. Bolt the shaft retainer (1) in place.
End By:
a. install the extension elevation control.
b. install the screed extension.
Remove Mat Depth Control
1. With the screed lowered to the ground, mark the position of the adjustment block (1) on the rod (2).
2. Remove the bolts, lockwashers, and spacers (3) from the adjustment block.
3. Remove the bolts, lockwashers, and spacers (4) from the bearing housing (5).
4. Slide the rod (2), bearing housing (5) and adjustment block (1) back until the block is free of the brackets (6).
5. Remove the adjustment block from the rod.
6. Slide the bearing housing and rod out of the support (7).
Install Mat Depth Control
1. Slide the bearing housing (5) and rod (2) into the support (7).
2. Install the adjustment block (1) onto the rod to the mark made when removing the control.
3. Slide the rod, bearing housing and adjustment block forward until the block is in position between the brackets (6).
4. Install the bolts, lockwashers, and spacers (3) into the adjustment block.
5. Install the bolts, lockwashers, and spacers (4) into the bearing housing.
Remove and Install Mat Depth Control Bearings
1. Remove the rolled pin (1) from the adjustment wheel (2) and slide the wheel off the rod (3).
2. Remove the nut and washer (4) from the rod.
3. Remove the bolts, lockwashers, and spacers (5) from the bearing housing (6).
4. Slide the bearing housing off the rod.
5. Remove the bearings from the housing.
6. Check the bearing housing and rod for burrs. Use crocus cloth to remove any found.
7. Install the replacement bearings into the housing.
8. Install the housing on the rod.
9. Install the bolts, lockwashers, and spacers into the bearing housing.
10. Install the nut and washer on the rod. Tighten the nut snug against the bearings.
11. Slide the adjustment wheel on the rod and install the rolled pin.
Remove And Install Extension Elevation Control
1. With the screed lowered to the ground, mark the position of the ball nut housing (1) on the rod (2).
2. Remove the bolts, lockwashers, and spacers (3) from the bearing housing (4).
3. Remove the bolts, lockwashers, and spacers (5) from the ball nut housing (1).
4. Slide the control assembly straight up out of the brackets (6).
5. With the ball nut housing at the mark made in step 1, position the control assembly between the brackets.
6. Install the bolts, lockwashers, and spacers into the ball nut housing.
7. Install the bolts, lockwashers, and spacers into the bearing housing.
Replace Extension Elevation Control Bearings
1. Remove the nut and washer (1) from the rod (2).
2. Remove the bolts, lockwashers, and spacers (3) from the bearing housing (4).
3. Slide the bearing housing off the rod.
4. Slide the bearings (5) out of the bearing housing.
5. Check the bearing housing and rod for burrs. Use crocus cloth to remove any found.
6. Install the replacement bearings in the housing.
7. Slide the housing onto the rod.
8. Install bolts, lockwashers, and spacers into the bearing housing.
9. Install the nut and washer on the rod. Tighten the nut snug against the bearings.
10. Turn the control clockwise until the screed extension is level with the main screed.
11. Extend the extension and raise the screed off the ground.
12. If the weight of the extension causes the control to rotate, tighten the nut against the bearings.
Remove Screed Tow Arm
1. With the screed resting on the ground, mark the position of the adjustment block (1) on the rod (3) of the mat depth control.
2. Remove the bolts, lockwashers, spacers, and indicator rod (2) from the mat depth control adjustment block (1). Lay the spacers and the indicator rod where they will not be lost.
3. Remove the bolts, lockwashers, and spacers (4) from the mat depth control bearing housing (5).
4. Slide the bearing housing, rod, and adjustment block back until the rod is clear of the tow arm brackets (6).
5. Remove the bolts that hold the cap (7) to the bottom of the screed tow arm (8).
6. Attach a lifting device to the tow arm and take enough slack out of the lifting lines to support the tow arm.
7. Unbolt the screed tow arm (8) from the main tow arm (9).
8. Raise the tow arm straight up until the tow arm is clear of the screed extension then move the tow arm away.
Install Screed Tow Arm
1. Move the tow arm into position in the screed extension. Be sure the bottom of the screed tow arm (8) is resting properly on the tube (10).
2. Bolt the screed tow arm (8) to the main tow arm (9).
3. Remove the lifting device.
4. Install the cap (7) onto the bottom of the tow arm.
5. Slide the bearing housing (5), rod (3), and adjustment block (1) forward until the adjustment block bolt holes are aligned with the bracket holes.
6. Check the position of the adjustment block on the rod and adjust as necessary.
7. Install the spacers, rod indicator, lockwashers, and bolts (2) onto the adjustment block.
8. Install the bolts, lockwashers, and spacers (4) in the bearing housing (5).
