Start By:

  1. Remove the flywheel. Refer to "Flywheel - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove bolts (1) and crankshaft rear seal (2).

Note: Refer to Reuse and Salvage Guidelines, SEBF8042, "Reuse and Salvage for Crankshafts" for the correct inspection procedure of the crankshaft seal surface and the correct specifications of the crankshaft.

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Clean the outside diameter of the crankshaft.

  2. Install the pilot assembly and the bolts of Tooling (A).

  3. Install the spacer plate, the wear sleeve, and the bolts to the cover of Tooling (A).

  4. Install the three alignment studs of Tooling (A).

  5. Position crankshaft rear seal (2) on the dowels of Tooling (A).

  6. Slide crankshaft rear seal (2) and the cover assembly of Tooling (A) over the pilot assembly of Tooling (A). Align the alignment studs of Tooling (A) with the holes on crankshaft rear seal (2). Position crankshaft rear seal (2) as shown in Illustration 9.

  7. Install the washer and the nut of Tooling (A). Tighten the nut of Tooling (A) to install crankshaft rear seal (2). Install crankshaft rear seal (2).

    Note: Ensure that crankshaft rear seal (2) is evenly seated.

    Note: Do not tighten bolts (1) now.

  8. Install three bolts (1). Remove the three alignment studs of Tooling (A) and install three bolts (1).

  9. Remove the nut, the washer, and the cover assembly of Tooling (A).

    Note: Do not tighten bolts (1) now.

  10. Install remaining three bolts (1).

  11. Remove the bolts and the pilot assembly of Tooling (A).

  12. Tighten bolts (1) in sequence as shown in Illustration 11.

End By:

  1. Install the flywheel. Refer to "Flywheel - Remove and Install".
