Start By:

  1. Remove the service brake and the wheel spindle.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


Note: Inspect the O-ring seals. Replace the O-ring seals that are worn or damaged.

  1. Use Tooling (A), Tooling (C), and a suitable lifting device to position service brake (1) onto Tooling (B). The weight of service brake (1) is approximately 234 kg (515 lb).

  2. Remove bolts (2). Remove retainer (3).

    Note: Note the quantity, order, and thickness of the shims.

  3. Remove shims (4). Use Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to remove sprocket (5). The weight of sprocket (5) is approximately 19 kg (42 lb).

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.

    Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

    Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.


  4. Remove bolts (6).

  5. Remove O-ring seal (7). Use Tooling (D) to remove bearing cone (8). Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to remove cover (9). The weight of cover (9) is approximately 32 kg (70 lb).

  6. Remove bearing cup (10) from cover (9).

  7. Remove springs (11). Remove plates (12) and discs (13).

    Note: Note the quantity and the order of plates (12) and discs (13).

  8. Remove piston (14). Remove dowels (15) and, if equipped, remove the spacers. Remove hub (16).

  9. Remove seals (17) from piston (14).

  10. Use Tooling (A) to remove housing (18). The weight of housing (18) is approximately 57 kg (125 lb). Position housing (18) onto suitable blocking.

  11. Remove Duo-Cone seal (19). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Duo-Cone Conventional Seals - Remove". Remove bearing cup (20).

  13. Use Tooling (E) to remove bearing cone (21).
