Conditions Which Generate This Code:

Illustration 1g00930888

This diagnostic code is associated with the operator station select switch. The FMI 02 means that the ECM determined that the signal is intermittent, erratic, or incorrect. The ECM could be receiving invalid combinations from the circuit.

System Response:

The machine will default to the left station. The fault lamp for the propulsion system is activated. The action lamp is ON.

Test Step 1. CHECK THE CONTINUITY OF THE SWITCH IN THE LEFT POSITION

  1. Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.

  1. Remove the switch from the dash.

  1. Unplug the switch from the wire harness.

  1. With the switch in the LEFT position, check the resistance from terminal 2 to the following terminals: terminal 1 and terminal 3.

Expected Result:

The resistance should be greater than 5000 ohms from terminal 2 to terminal 3. The resistance should be less than 5 ohms from terminal 2 to terminal 1.

Results:

  • OK - The resistance measurements are correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.

  • NOT OK - The resistance is not correct on one of the readings.

Repair: The switch has failed. Replace the switch.

    STOP

Test Step 2. CHECK THE CONTINUITY OF THE SWITCH IN THE RIGHT POSITION

  1. Press and hold the switch in the RIGHT position.

  1. With the switch in the RIGHT position, check the resistance from terminal 2 to terminal 1 and to terminal 3.

Expected Result:

The resistances should be greater than 5000 ohms on terminals 1 and 2. The resistances should be less than 5 ohms on terminals 2 and 3.

Results:

  • OK - The resistances are correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.

  • NOT OK - The resistances are not greater than 5000 ohms on either terminal 1 or terminal 2 or the resistances are not less than 5 ohms on either terminal 3 or terminal 2.

Repair: The switch has failed. Replace the switch.

    STOP

Test Step 3. CHECK THE HARNESS

  1. The disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the OFF position.

  1. The machine harness remains disconnected from the switch.

  1. Disconnect the machine harness connector from the ECM.

  1. Measure the resistance between contacts J2-31 (wire A841-WH) and J2-30 (wire A844-BU) of the machine harness to all the contacts that are used in machine harness connectors for the ECM.

Expected Result:

Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms.

Results:

  • YES - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The ECM has failed.

Repair: ECM failure is unlikely. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".

    STOP

  • NO - One or more of the resistance measurements are less than 5 ohms. The harness has failed. The short is between J2-31 (wire A841-WH) and the circuit with the lowest resistance or the short is between J2-30 (wire A844-BU) and the circuit with the lowest resistance.

Repair: Repair the wiring harness or replace the wiring harness

    STOP
