Switch Operation

There are three different switches for the AVSpare Monitoring System.

Mode 0 Switch

The mode 0 switch is utilized in order to increment through the different displayable parameters in mode 0.

Mode Scroll Switch

The mode scroll switch is used in order to increment through the different modes

Increment/Clear Switch

The increment/clear switch is used in order to increment between the different parameters, diagnostic codes, and calibrations. The switch will also clear diagnostic codes. When in modes 1 through 7, the switch will store calibrations.

Typical Display Area of AVSpare Monitoring System

The display area is showing the following information: Module Identifier (MID) (039), Component Identifier (CID) (0733) and Failure Mode (FMI) (03).

(1) First display

(2) Second display

(3) Module identifier (MID)

(4) Service code indicator ("SERV CODE")

(5) Component identifier (CID)

(6) Failure mode identifier (FMI)

Use the following procedure to troubleshoot diagnostic code information.

  1. Place the AVSpare Monitoring System in service mode (mode 3). In order to place the AVSpare Monitoring System in service mode, close the service and clear switches. Open the switches when service mode "3" is shown on the display. The switches are located below the monitoring system display.

    Note: The diagnostic scrolling mode may be entered in order to view the diagnostic codes, but the diagnostic codes can be more easily diagnosed by utilizing the service mode. The service mode allows the diagnostic codes to be placed on hold for further investigation. The service mode will allow the service code to be cleared after the problem is corrected.

  1. The service code is shown and the service code is on hold at this time. The display toggles between showing MID (3) and CID (5) and FMI (6). While you are in the service mode, screen (1) will show "---" only when no service codes are active or logged.

  1. In order to view all the diagnostic codes, scroll through the diagnostic codes. In order to scroll through the diagnostic codes, close the service switch. The display momentarily shows MID (3), CID (5) and FMI (6) for each diagnostic code. The word "End" is shown after the last diagnostic code in the list.

  1. Place the desired diagnostic code on hold. In order to place the diagnostic code on hold, open the service switch when the desired diagnostic code is shown.

  1. Use the information from the MID in order to determine the ECM that is generating the diagnostic code. If the MID is not 039, see Electrical System Schematic, "Module Identifier (MID) Table" of the machine that is being serviced. Use the table to determine the ECM that has detected the diagnostic code. Then see the service manual module for that electronic control. If the MID is 039, use this Service Manual Module to troubleshoot the fault diagnostic code.

  1. Observe the diagnostic code indicator (4). In service mode, the diagnostic code indicator functions as a fault present indicator.

    • If fault present indicator (4) shows "SERV CODE", then the failure that caused the diagnostic code that is shown is currently present.

    • If fault present indicator (4) is OFF, then the failure that caused the diagnostic code that is shown is not present at this time.

  1. Refer to the test procedure in Troubleshooting in order to troubleshoot the diagnostic code with the same CID and the same FMI.

  1. After a diagnostic code is corrected, clear the diagnostic code. In order to clear the diagnostic code, close the clear switch while the diagnostic code is on hold. After clearing, the display advances to the next available diagnostic code.

  1. Repeat Steps 2 through 8 for the remaining diagnostic codes. Return to the normal mode when you are finished. In order to return to the normal mode, close the service and clear switches. Hold the switches down until the hour meter is shown on the display.
