------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from machine articulation or movement.

Machine frames can move and a person can be crushed.

Connect the steering frame lock link between the front and rear frames before working on machine.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.

Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.

------ WARNING! ------

The drive shaft rotates between the torque converter and the transmission whenever the engine is running. Contact with the rotating shaft can result in personal injury or death. The rotating shaft is located under the implement and steering pumps.

Do not allow personnel into the pump bay area behind the cab when the engine is running.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Test Preparation

Reference: For more information about preparing the machine for troubleshooting, refer to the Service Manual module Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting" for the machine that is being serviced.

  1. Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel.

  2. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from the machine or in sight of the operator.

  3. Position the work tool on the ground.

  4. Place the steering frame lock in the LOCKED position.

Test Procedure

  1. Check hydraulic oil tank for proper oil level. The proper oil level must be maintained throughout the procedure.

  2. Start engine and run engine at low idle. Trap the service brake control pedal in the applied position.

  3. Open one service brake purge screw at a time until a stream of hydraulic fluid visually free of air is evident. Immediately retighten each purge screw.

  4. Apply and release parking brake switch at 1 second on / 1 second off interval. Complete a total of 50 cycles throughout the assembly and testing process.
