Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement. Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine. |
NOTICE |
---|
In order to avoid damage to the vibrator system during testing, always perform the testing with the vibrator drum on top of tires or on loose dirt. Tires will simulate a non-compacted soil condition Never operate the vibrator system when the machine is on concrete. |
NOTICE |
---|
If a testing time longer than three minutes is required, rotate the drum periodically in order to lubricate the eccentric weight shaft bearings. |

---|---|---|---|
Tool     | Part Number     |
Description     | Qty     |
A (1)     | 133-9905     | Vibratory Gauge Gp     | 1     |
133-0963 | Vibratory Gauge Gp     | 1     | |
B     | 4C-6500     | Digital Thermometer     | 1     |
( 1 ) | Use either the frequency meter or the drum vibration tachometer. |
- Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface on loose, uncompacted soil.
Note: If loose, uncompacted soil is unavailable, drive the machine onto an unusable tire without rims. This tire should have a carcass of substantial stiffness in order to support the drum. If tires are used, the drum should be a minimum of 102 mm (4 inch) above the ground.
Note: Vibratory frequency is highly dependent on the temperature of the eccentric bearing. In order to ensure that the temperature of the eccentric bearing is sufficiently high before testing vibrator frequency, it may be necessary to drive the machine for up to 30 minutes with the vibrator operating.
- Move propulsion lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.

- Move parking brake switch (2) to the ON position.

- Move throttle switch (3) to the LOW IDLE position.

- Monitor hydraulic oil temperature with Tool (B). Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches 43° ± 5.6°C (110° ± 10°F).
- Move switch (4) for the amplitude to the LOW AMPLITUDE position.

- Actuate vibratory switch (5) on the propulsion lever in order to start the vibrator.

- Read vibratory frequency on Tool (A). On the CS54 Vibratory Compactor, the frequency should be 2090 ± 25 vpm. On the CP54 Vibratory Compactor, the frequency should be 1915 ± 25 vpm.
- Actuate vibratory switch (5) on the propulsion lever in order to stop the vibrator.
- Move switch (4) for the amplitude to the "HIGH AMPLITUDE" position.
- Actuate vibratory switch (5) on the propulsion lever in order to start the vibrator.
- Read vibratory frequency on Tool (A). The frequency should be 1915 ± 25 vpm.
- Actuate vibratory switch (5) on the propulsion lever in order to stop the vibrator.
- Move throttle switch (3) to the LOW IDLE position.
- Move engine start switch (6) to the OFF position.

- If the frequency readings were inside the specified range, go to Step 19. If the low amplitude frequency or the high amplitude frequency is outside the specified range, go to Step 17.
- Use the following procedure to adjust the vibratory frequency:
- If the low amplitude frequency was out of the correct range, remove cap (7) and turn the adjustment screw. If the high amplitude frequency was out of the correct range, remove cap (8) and turn the screw.
- Loosen the locknut. Rotate the adjustment screw counterclockwise in order to increase the frequency. Rotate the adjustment screw clockwise in order to decrease the frequency.
- Hold the adjustment screw and tighten the locknut.
Note: The cab can be tilted in order to provide greater access to components under the cab. However, the cab must be lowered and fastened before the machine is operated. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, KENR6047, "Cab - Tilt".

- Move engine start switch (6) to the START position. Release the switch when the engine starts. Go to Step 4.
- If necessary, lower and fasten the cab. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, KENR6047, "Cab - Tilt".
