Relief Valve (Main, Vibratory) - Test and Adjust
`

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts. Stay clear of all rotating and moving parts.

Never attempt adjustments while the machine is moving or the engine is running unless otherwise specified.

The machine must be parked on a level surface and the engine stopped.

Attach a "Do Not Operate" or similar warning tag to the start switch and controls before servicing, repairing, or making adjustments to the machine.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "AVSpare Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in AVSpare machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

NOTICE

In order to avoid damage to the vibrator system during testing, always perform the testing with the vibrator drum on top of tires or on loose dirt. Tires will simulate a non-compacted soil condition.

Never operate the vibrator systemwhen the machine is on concrete.

NOTICE

If a testing time longer than three minutes is required, rotate the drum periodically in order to lubricate the eccentric weight shaft bearings.

Note: If loose, uncompacted soil is unavailable, drive the machine onto a unusable tire without rims. This tire should have substantial stiffness in order to support the drum. If tires are used, the drum should be a minimum of 102 mm (4 inch) above the ground.

  1. Move propulsion lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.

    Illustration 2g01415246

  1. Move parking brake switch (2) to the ON position.

    Illustration 3g01415249

  1. Move throttle control switch (3) to the LOW IDLE position.

    Illustration 4g01415252

  1. Move engine start switch (4) to the OFF position.

Note: The cab can be tilted in order to provide greater access to components under the cab. However, the cab must be lowered and fastened before the machine is operated. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, KENR6047, "Cab - Tilt".

  1. Connect Tool (A) to Tool (B). Make two sets of tools.

    .

  1. Remove the cap from port "Ma" (6). Connect second Tool (B) to the high amplitude pressure tap in port "Ma" (6) on the vibratory pump.

  1. Move engine start switch (4) to the START position. Release the switch when the engine starts.

  1. Operate the engine at low idle for few minutes. Move throttle switch (3) to the HIGH IDLE position.

  1. Monitor hydraulic oil temperature with Tool (C). Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches 43 ± 5.6 °C (110 ± 10 °F).

    Illustration 7g01416251

  1. Move switch (7) for amplitude to the LOW AMPLITUDE position.

    Illustration 8g01416254

  1. Actuate vibratory switch (8) on the propulsion lever.

  1. Watch the pressure at port "Mb" (5). Record the initial pressure reading as the main relief pressure. The initial pressure reading will be a momentary spike on the gauge. After the initial spike, the hydraulic pressure will return to normal. The main relief pressure should be 35000 ± 3000 kPa (5075 ± 435 psi).

  1. Actuate vibratory switch (8) in order to stop the vibratory system.

  1. Move switch (7) for the amplitude to the HIGH AMPLITUDE position.

  1. Actuate vibratory switch (8) on the propulsion lever.

  1. Watch pressure at port "Ma" (6).

  1. Move throttle switch (3) to the LOW IDLE position.

  1. Move engine start switch (4) to the OFF position.

  1. If the pressure is inside the specified range, go to 25. If the pressure is outside the specified range, go to Step 23.

    High Amplitude Relief Valve

  1. Use the following procedure to adjust the main relief valves:

    1. Remove cap (9) or cap (10) from the relief valve.

    1. Remove the relief valve cartridge from the pump. Reinstall cap (9) or cap (10) in order to prevent oil from leaking from the ports.

      Illustration 11g01416271

      Arrows indicate the clamping position.

    1. Clamp the relief valve cartridge in a soft vise jaw. Loosen locking the setscrew (11) with a 3 mm Allen wrench.

    1. Use a 5 mm wrench to turn spindle (12). Turn the spindle clockwise in order to increase pressure. Turn the spindle counterclockwise in order to decrease pressure.

Note: One full revolution of spindle (12) changes the pressure setting by approximately 4400 kPa (638 psi).

    1. Tighten locking setscrew (11) .

    1. Remove the relief valve cartridge from the vise.

    1. Remove cap (9) and cap (10) for the relief valve. Install the relief valve cartridge in the vibration pump. Reinstall the cap for the relief valve.

  1. Go to Step 9.

  1. Remove Tool (B) from port "Ma" (6) and from port "Mb" (5). Reinstall rubber caps.
