Piston Motor Flushing Valve (Axle) - Test and Replace

The machine must be parked on a level surface and the engine stopped.

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "AVSpare Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in AVSpare machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

(1) Tool (A), Tool (B), and Tool (C) are part of 198-4240 Digital Pressure Indicator.

  1. Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.

  2. Move propulsion lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.

  3. Move parking brake switch (2) to the ON position.

  4. Move throttle switch (3) to the LOW IDLE position.

  5. Move engine start switch (4) to the OFF position.

  6. Remove bolts (5) and remove left cover plate (6).

  7. Block the wheels. Block the drum.

  8. Disconnect brake supply line (7) from the drum. Use Tool (D) to cap the port. Use Tool (E) to plug the hose.

  9. Connect Tool (C) to charge pressure tap (8) on axle propulsion pump. Connect Tool (B) to Tool (C). Connect Tool (A) to Tool (B).

  10. Move engine start switch (4) to the START position. Release the switch when the engine starts.

  11. Operate the engine at low idle for few minutes. Move throttle switch (3) to the HIGH IDLE position.

  12. Monitor hydraulic oil temperature with Tool (F). Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches 43 ± 5.6 °C (110 ± 10 °F).

  13. Record pressure on Tool (A).

  14. Move propulsion lever (1) into the FORWARD range.

  15. Read pressure on Tool (A). Subtract the pressure that was recorded in this step from the pressure that was recorded in Step 13. The pressure drop should be 76 ± 48 kPa (11 ± 7 psi).

  16. Move propulsion lever (1) into the REVERSE range.

  17. Read pressure on Tool (A). Subtract the pressure that was recorded in this step from the pressure that was recorded in Step 13. The pressure drop should be 76 ± 48 kPa (11 ± 7 psi).

  18. Move propulsion lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.

  19. Move throttle switch (3) to the LOW IDLE position.

  20. Move engine start switch (4) to the OFF position.

  21. If the pressure is outside the specified range, go to Step 22. If the pressure is inside the specified range, go to Step 23.

  22. Replace flushing valve (9).

  23. Remove Tool (C). Remove Tool (D) and Tool (E). Reconnect brake supply line (7).

  24. Replace cover plate (6) and install bolts (5).
