Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "AVSpare Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in AVSpare machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.

  1. Move propulsion lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Move parking brake switch (2) to the ON position.

  1. Move throttle switch (3) to the LOW IDLE position.

  1. Move engine start switch (4) to the OFF position.

  1. Remove bolts (5) and remove right cover plate (6) .

  1. Remove bolts (7) and remove left cover plate (8) .

  1. Block the wheels. Block the drum.

  1. Raise the cab. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, KENR6413, "Cab - Tilt".

  1. Loosen set screw (9). Fully rotate the needle valve in the clockwise direction in order to prevent the parking brake from releasing.

  1. Assemble Tool (A). Assemble Tool (B). Assemble Tool (C) to the inlet side of flow meter in Tool (A). Connect Tool (B) to the outlet side of flow meter in Tool (A) .

  1. Disconnect the case drain line for the axle motor from port (11) on thermal bypass return manifold (10) .

  1. Connect Tool (C) to the case drain line from the axle motor. Connect Tool (B) to port (11) on return manifold (10) .

  1. Disconnect electrical connector (12) for the drum interlock from the drum pump.

  1. Connect one Tool (E) to forward pressure tap (13) on the axle pump. Connect other Tool (E) to reverse pressure tap (14). Connect both sets of Tool (E) to Tool (D) .

  1. Lower the cab but do not install cover plate (6) or cover plate (8). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, KENR6413, "Cab - Tilt".

    Note: The cab mounting bolts must be installed and properly torqued before the engine is started.

  1. Move engine start switch (4) to the START position. Release the switch when the engine starts.

  1. Operate the engine at low idle for few minutes. Move throttle switch (3) to the HIGH IDLE position.

  1. Monitor hydraulic oil temperature with Tool (H). Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches43 ± 5.6 °C (110 ± 10 °F).

  1. Move throttle switch (3) to the LOW IDLE position.

  1. Move shift switch (15) to the HIGH SPEED position.

  1. Move parking brake switch (2) to the OFF position.

  1. Move propulsion lever (1) to the FORWARD range. Monitor the pressure at forward pressure port (8). Check the case drain flow when the pressure in the forward circuit is 10300 kPa (1500 psi). The flow should be 8.5 to 14.4 L/Min (2.2 to 3.8 US gpm).

    Note: If 10300 kPa (1500 psi) cannot be reached, move the throttle switch to the HIGH IDLE position, and recheck.

  1. Move propulsion lever (1) to the REVERSE range. Monitor the pressure at reverse pressure port (9). Check the case drain flow when the pressure in the reverse circuit is 10300 kPa (1500 psi). The flow should be 8.5 to 14.4 L/Min (2.2 to 3.8 US gpm).

  1. Move propulsion lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.

  1. Move parking brake switch (2) to the ON position.

  1. Move engine start switch (4) to the OFF position.

  1. Raise the cab. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, KENR6413, "Cab - Tilt".

  1. Reconnect electrical connector (14) for the axle interlock to the axle pump.

  1. Remove both sets of Tool (E) from the axle pump.

  1. Remove Tool (A), Tool (B), and Tool (C) from the axle motor, and reconnect case drain line (6) .

  1. Fully rotate the needle valve in the counterclockwise direction. Tighten set screw (9) .

  1. Lower the cab. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, KENR6413, "Cab - Tilt".

  1. Replace cover plates (6) and (8). Install bolts (5) and (7) .
