574B Forwarder Power Train Monitoring System
1.1. Warning System

The IQAN Monitoring and Control System monitors the machine systems. The IQAN computer controls the engine, the power train system and the implement functions of the Forwarder. The IQAN receives electrical signals from the sensors, the switches, the potentiometers, the accelerator pedals, and the joysticks. The IQAN processes the electrical input signals. Then, the IQAN outputs the signals to the solenoids, the governor, the warning system, and the monitoring system.

The settings for the IQAN Monitoring and Control System are stored in memory. The IQAN controls the hydraulic functions of the implement control valve and the power train system and the engine (governor) of the machine. The parameters for the warning system are also controlled by the IQAN. If any of the pressure sensors, pressure switches, temperature sending units, control levers (joysticks), pedals or speed senders detect a reading which is out of the machine specifications, the IQAN activates the warning light and the fault is displayed on the monitor panel.

The IQAN Monitoring and Control System monitors the following functions:

  • Engine speed

  • Machine speed

  • Oil pressures (engine, transmission gearbox and implement return filter)

  • Oil temperatures (engine, transmission, gearbox and hydraulic implements)

  • Gear positions

  • System Voltages

The IQAN Monitoring and Control System consists of several modules that communicate with each other with CAN-BUS signals. The IQAN Monitoring and Control System consists of the following modules:

  • IQAN-DG (IQAN display unit)

  • IQAN-XS

  • IQAN-MG

  • IQAN-XP

  • IQAN-XT

Location of IQAN-DG

The IQAN-DG module consists of a display and nine keys. This module is located on the right panel in the center of the cab. The IQAN-DG allows individual functions of the machine to be displayed and adjusted. All of the input signals and all of the output signals can be monitored and measured through the IQAN-DG. The IQAN-DG allows the operator to obtain different machine information. The monitor is also used for the following functions: adjusting the implement hydraulics, calibration and testing and troubleshooting.

The IQAN-DG allows you to measure electrical input signals and the electrical output signals of the IQAN on the machine.

Location of IQAN-XS

The IQAN-XS module changes the analog signals of the operating devices into CAN-BUS digital signals. Then, the CAN-BUS signals are sent to the IQAN-MG module. The IQAN-XS module receives CAN-BUS signals and changes the signals to digital (on/off) signals (indication lights of the boom and steering activation). The IQAN-XS module is located behind the operator seat in the cab.

IQAN-MG module (1) and IQAN-XP module (2) are located behind the rear access panel in the cab.

The IQAN-MG module (1) processes all of the incoming signals. Then, the module converts the signals into functions and sends the CAN-BUS signals to the other control units.

The IQAN-XP module (2) changes the CAN-BUS digital signals of the IQAN system into analog signals and sends the signals to the corresponding components of the implement hydraulics. The IQAN-XP module (2) changes the CAN-BUS digital signals of the IQAN system into digital signals and sends the signals to the corresponding solenoids. The IQAN-XP module (2) receives analog signals and changes the signals to CAN-BUS digital signals in the IQAN system.

Location of IQAN-XT

The IQAN-XT module is located under the cab.

The IQAN-XT allows the ADEM engine control module to communicate with the IQAN system. The IQAN-XT module allows the signals from the engine control module to be displayed on the IQAN-DG module. The IQAN-XT module allows the IQAN system to send signals to the engine control module (ADEM). The protocol standard used between the ADEM and the IQAN-XT module is J1939.

For service and maintenance, a connection for IQANtalk is used. The IQANtalk connection (3) is a nine-pin connector that is located behind the rear access panel in the cab. A computer with IQANtalk software can be used to communicate externally with the IQAN system.

IQANtalk is the interface between the IQAN and the user. IQANtalk is intended for controlling, supervising, and troubleshooting the IQAN system. The IQANtalk software allows you to measure the electrical input signals and the electrical output signals of the IQAN. The IQANtalk software also allows you to monitor the signals externally. Data can be saved onto your PC. The data can be sent by e-mail.

The IQANtalk software allows you to download the machine settings that are specific to the machine. The IQANtalk also allows you to flash new software to the IQAN. This software contains the parameters of the machine systems.

The IQANtalk software also allows you to download settings from the IQAN for troubleshooting. The files may be saved to a PC, if necessary. IQANtalk allows you to monitor multiple functions simultaneously.

The IQAN uses electrical input signals and electrical output signals in order to control the power train system. The IQAN consists of several modules that communicate with each other.

Warning System

The IQAN warns the operator of problems in the power train system. The IQAN uses the switches and the sensors in the power train system to detect problems. If a problem is detected, a warning alarm and a warning lamp alerts the operator. The display panel will also display the nature of the alarm.

The following items are examples of warning messages that occur for the power train:

  • "Brake Failure"

  • "Charge Pressure"

  • "High Pressure Forward"

  • "High Pressure Reverse"

  • "Hydromotor Speed"

  • "Parking Brake"

  • "Parking Brake Active"

  • "Temperature Gearbox"

  • "Temperature Hydrostat"

"Brake Failure" - The oil pressure that is required to engage the service brake is out-of-range.

"Charge Pressure" - The charge pressure oil in the hydrostatic system is out-of-range.

"High Pressure Forward" - The oil pressure of the power train pump is out-of-range.

"High Pressure Reverse" - The oil pressure of the power train pump is out-of-range.

"Hydromotor Speed" - The power train motor is overspeeding.

"Parking Brake" - The oil pressure that is required to release the parking brake is out-of-range.

"Parking Brake Active" - The operator has attempted to drive the machine and the parking brake is still engaged.

"Temperature Gearbox" - The temperature of the oil in the transmission gearbox is out-of-range.

"Temperature Hydrostat" - The temperature of the oil in the power train oil tank is out-of-range.
