1.1. BRAKE ON Position
2.1. BRAKE OFF Position

The brake interlock valve is located in the propel pump. The brake interlock valve serves two functions:

  • Apply the parking brake when the parking brake switch is in the ON position.

  • Prevent the pump swashplate from moving out of neutral when the parking brake is applied.

The brake interlock valve has a solenoid on one end in order to move the valve spool. There is a spring on the other end in order to position the valve spool when the solenoid is not energized.

(1) Oil from brakes

(2) Oil from steering system

(3) Oil from servo piston

(4) Oil to pump case

The brake interlock valve is in the BRAKE ON position at the following times:

  • The machine is not running.

  • The machine is running and the parking brake switch is in the ON position.

When the brake interlock valve is in the BRAKE ON position, the brake interlock solenoid is not energized. In this position, the brake lines and the servo piston are open to the pump case. When the brake lines are open to the pump case, the spring applied brakes are engaged. When the servo piston is open to the pump case, the centering springs shift the piston to the neutral position. This causes the pump swashplate to move to the neutral position.

The brake interlock valve is in the BRAKE OFF position when the machine is running and the parking brake switch is in the OFF position.

When the brake interlock valve is in the BRAKE OFF position, the brake interlock solenoid is energized. In this position, the charge oil flows across the valve to the brake lines and to the servo piston. The charge oil pressure overcomes the force of the springs and the brakes are released. When the charge oil becomes available for the servo piston, any movement of the propel control lever causes the servo piston to shift the pump swashplate.
