Right Side of Machine
(1) Number-one water pump fuse
(2) Number-two water pump fuse
(3) Number-one water pump relay
(4) Number-two water pump relay

The relay panel that contains the water pump relays is on the right side of the machine at the rear of the engine compartment. The door on the right side of the machine provides access to the relay panel. A cover over the panel provides access to the relays. The cover is removed in the above illustration.

Number-two water pump relay (4) is at the bottom-left corner of the relay panel. The number-one water pump relay (3) is located directly above the number-two water pump relay.

The relays are five-pin relays. Number-one water pump relay (3) controls the power supply circuit from number-one water pump fuse (1) to the number-one water pump. Number-two water pump relay (4) controls the power supply circuit from the number-two water pump fuse (2) to the number-two water pump. The machine ECM controls the output signals that energize the coils of the relays. When the coil of a relay is energized, power transfers to the corresponding water pump.

(6) Water filter
(7) Water filter drain
(8) Inlet drain valve
(9) Number-one water pump
(10) Outlet drain valve

The machine is equipped with water filter (6) and two water pumps. The water filter and the number-one water pump (9) are in the articulation area on the left side of the machine. The number-two water pump (not shown) is in the articulation area on the right side of the machine.

The diaphragm-type water pumps are driven by electric motors. The water pump relays control the power supply to the water pumps. Both pumps draw water from the machine water tanks through water filter (6) and supply water to both spray bars. Each pump contains an internal bypass valve. The valve limits the pressure in the water spray system to 300 ± 30 kPa (43 ± 4 psi).

Water filter drain (7) can be used to empty the water filter. The inlet lines to the water pumps can be drained with inlet drain valve (8). The supply lines to the water spray bars can be drained with outlet drain valve (19). The water tanks can be drained by removing drain plug (5).

Note: Drain plug (5) is one of two plugs on the tank. The other plug is on the bottom of the tank on the right side of the machine.

Rear of Machine
(11) Main water tank
(12) Secondary water tank
(13) Water fill ports
(14) Water level sender

Primary water tank (11) and secondary water tank (12) are at the rear of the machine. The two tanks are connected by a hose.

Main water tank (11) has two fill ports (13). The water tanks can be filled from either side of the machine. Each fill port contains a mesh filter to prevent large debris from entering the tank. The refill capacity of the water tanks 852 L (225 US gal). The water tanks are made of black polyethylene to reduce algae growth.

Water level sender (14) is installed in the top of main water tank (11). The machine ECM monitors the input signal from the water level sender to determine the amount of water in the tank. The machine ECM sets the water level status to low when the input from the sender indicates a water level of less than 65 percent. If the water level reaches 10 percent, the operator display shows a low water indicator.

Water level sender (11) is a resistance device. The resistance of the sender when the tank is empty is 240 ohms. The resistance of the sender when the tank is full is 30 ohms.

Front of Machine
(15) Spray bar support
(16) Spray bar
(17) Nozzles
(18) Spray bar drain valve
(19) Scraper

The machine is equipped with two water spray bars. Front water spray bar (16) is mounted above the drum on the front of the machine. A second water spray bar is mounted above the drum on the rear of the machine.

During paving operation, spray bar supports (15) can be released to lower spray bar (16) and scraper (19) until the scraper contacts the drum. This action correctly positions spray nozzles (15) and allows the scraper to prevent asphalt from adhering to the drum. The spray bar supports allow the scraper to be suspended above the drum when the machine is not being used for compaction.

Each spray bar has seven spray nozzles (17) and spray bar drain valve (18).

Note: The machine can also be equipped with a rubber water distribution mat or cocoa mats.

Front of Operator Platform (cover Removed for Illustration Purposes)
(20) Fill cap
(21) Antifreeze tank

Optional antifreeze tanks (21) for the water system are located on the front of the operator platform. Fill cap (20) is located on top of the left tank.

Windshield washer fluid is used to flush the water spray system during cold weather. A valve in the water spray system stops the supply of water from the water tank. Another valve allows windshield washer fluid to flow from the antifreeze tank into the water spray system.
