(1) Torque for studs (case) ... 300 ± 15 N·m (220 ± 11 lb ft)

Before you assemble the studs and washers, lubricate washer faces and stud threads with 4C-5592 Anti-Seize Lubricant. Check the torque by hand for 100 percent of the nuts.

Section A-A

Assemble the cut that is in the 6G-3206 Thrust Washers within the dimension that is specified of 45 ± 10 degrees. The first diagonal cut is at position (A) and the second diagonal cut is at position (B) .

Coat the surfaces of the washer, the surface of (X), and the surface of (Y) slightly with 6V-4876 Lubricant .

(2) Torque for 36 bolts ... 240 ± 40 N·m (175 ± 29 lb ft)

(3) Torque for 32 bolts ... 270 ± 15 N·m (200 ± 11 lb ft)

(5) To achieve 0.03 ± 0.03 mm (.001 ± .001 inch) end play, use the shim pack.

6G-3212 Shim Pack :

Four shims ... 0.20 mm (.008 inch)
Six shims ... 0.05 mm (.002 inch)

(8) Lubricate the sealing lip slightly with 30W oil. Ensure that the 6V-8081 Lip Seal is flush with the end of the housing.

(9) Coat the surfaces of the washers and the surfaces of the rings with 6V-4876 Lubricant.

The tool that is required for the bearing adjustment procedure is the 5P-4204 Wrench Assembly .

Note: The procedure that follows must be used to place the correct amount of preload on the bearings for the final drive:

  1. Park the machine on a level surface.

  1. Support the machine so that the rear wheels are off the ground. The machine must be in a stable position in order to be able to turn the rear tires.

  1. Drain the oil from the tandem housing into a suitable container. Remove the tandem cover (10) .

Note: Do not reuse drained fluids. Discard drained fluids according to local regulations.

  1. Remove the lock (13). Remove the washer (11) and remove the bolt (12) .

  1. While turning the tires, tighten nut (7) using a 5P-4204 Wrench Assembly. Tighten the nut to the adjust torque value specified in Table 1.

  1. In order to seat the sprockets, hit the hub of sprocket (4) with a large punch and hammer.

  1. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 until the nut (7) does not turn at the adjust torque value.

  1. Loosen nut (7) by one locking position.

  1. With the tires stationary, tighten nut (7) to the final torque specified in the Table 1.

  1. If nut (7) is in a locking position, install lock (13), washer (11) and bolt (12) .

  1. If nut (7) is not in a locking position, tighten nut (7) to the next locking position. With the nut in the locking position, install lock (13), washer (11) and bolt (12) .

  1. Install the tandem cover (10). Fill the tandem housing with oil to the correct level.

  1. Repeat Steps 3 through 12 for the other final drive.
