PROBLEM

The existing excitation field lead routing in the 283-6722 exciter can become loose from the exciter frame and result in damage on certain 441-4395 and 20R6825 generator groups used on certain 795F AC Off-Highway Trucks. If the existing excitation lead fails, it will cause unplanned downtime.

Rework Procedure

Remove the air intake duct 306-1985 to gain access to the front of the generator.
Image1.1.1

Gain access to the leads through the air inlet ports as shown in Image 1.2.1.
Image1.2.1

Image 1.3.1 illustrates the leads secured incorrectly, which needs to be rerouted. The zip-ties securing the leads to the exciter can break or come loose allowing the leads to become loose from the frame. If the leads are loose, they need to be resecured.

In this position, the leads need to be rerouted and secured to the exciter frame in Image 1.4.1.

If the cables are routed, route cable along narrow bottom face of bar (where the P-Clip is attached). Do not secure on wider outside face.
