Daily Care
Make a daily check for loose nuts or bolts and parts worn to such an extent that they are no longer serviceable.
Trunnion Plate: Keep the trunnion plate bolts (1) and bearing cap bolts (2) tight.
TRUNNION BEARING BOLTS AND PLATE BOLTS
1-PLATE BOLT. 2-BEARING CAP BOLTS.
Cutting Edge and End Bits: Inspect the cutting edge (1) and end bits (2) to determine when they should be reversed or replaced.
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF CUTTING EDGE AND END BITS (BLADE BLOCKED UP)
1-CUTTING EDGE. 2-END BIT.
Reverse the cutting edge if it is worn only on one edge, otherwise replace it. Before installing the cutting edge or end bits, clean the contacting surfaces.
Bearing Adjustment: (1A Bulldozers) Place a block under the C-frame so the blade is suspended. Remove the shims from behind bearing cap (2). Clean dirt and lubricant from bearing parts and assemble without shims. Measure existing space with shims (1) and add one shim to provide clearance. Lubricate and reassemble the bearing. Adjust the bearings on each end of the tilt braces and on the forward end of each angling arm assembly (3) in the same manner.
MEASURING CLEARANCE FOR BEARING ADJUSTMENT
1-SHIMS. 2-BEARING CAP.
ANGLING ARM ASSEMBLY BEARING ADJUSTMENT
3-ANGLING ARM ASSEMBLY. C-SEE PAGE 15.
Ball and Socket Adjustment: Adjust the ball and socket joints when looseness affects operation.
ADJUSTING BALL AND SOCKET JOINTS
1-SHIMS. 2-SOCKET CAP. 3-BAR. 4-HOLES. 5-CLAMP BOLTS. 6-DIAGONAL ARM.
Remove shims (1) from between the socket and socket cap (2). Clean dirt and lubricant from ball and socket surfaces and assemble without shims. Measure existing space with shims and add one shim to provide clearance. Lubricate and reassemble the ball and socket.
Before adjusting diagonal arms, remove the lock pin and the pin that holds the arm to the push arm. After the ball and socket adjustment has been made, align the holes (4) for the arm pin by loosening bolts (5) and using bar (3) to adjust length for installation.
Do not adjust diagonal arms with pins in place as this may cause high stresses on push arms during operation.
Push Arm Shim Adjustment: Access to the bolts holding the bearing cap to the push arm is made by laying the bulldozer blade forward as far as possible. To do this, remove the bolts holding the tilt braces to the bulldozer blade and the pins holding the rear end of the diagonal arms in place. If the bulldozer is hydraulically operated, the ends of the cylinder rods must be unfastened from the bulldozer blade. Allow the blade to pivot on the push arms as far as possible and place a solid support under the top edge of the blade when it nears its limit of movement.
Remove the shims from the ball and socket joint of push arm (1). Install the cap (3) without shims (2) and tighten the bolts evenly until the cap is snug on the ball joint. Measure the existing clearance with the shims and add one shim to provide clearance.
CHECKING SHIM ADJUSTMENT
1-PUSH ARM. 2-SHIMS. 3-CAP.
Torsion Bar: The torsion bar (1) is centered on the blade and has 1/8" free movement each way from center. As free movement reaches 1/4", adjust by adding shims (3) between wear plates (2) and blade brackets (4).
TORSION BAR
1-TORSION BAR. 2-WEAR PLATE. 3-SHIMS. 4-BLADE BRACKET.
Hydraulic Lift Cylinder Protection: If the bulldozer assembly is to be removed from the tractor, but the lift cylinders and hydraulic system are to remain on the machine, secure the lift cylinders to the pin (2) on the side of the machine with hanger link (1) and bolt, nut and lockwasher (3). For safety and for protection of the rod, retract the cylinder rod.
SECURING LIFT CYLINDER
1-HANGER LINK. 2-PIN. 3-BOLT, NUT AND LOCKWASHER.
TILT CYLINDER HOSES
4-HOSES. 5-HOSES.
Tilt Cylinder Hose Protection: When a bulldozer equipped with a tilt cylinder attachment is being removed, disconnect hoses (4) from hoses (5). Join hoses (4) together and hoses (5) together to seal the hydraulic system. Secure the hoses (5) to the tilt cylinder or bulldozer to prevent hose damage.
