NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Obtain the sample of the transmission oil as close as possible to the recommended sampling interval. The recommended sampling interval is every 500 service hours. In order to receive the full effect of S·O·S oil analysis, you must establish a consistent trend of data. In order to establish a pertinent history of data, evenly space the oil samplings. Be consistent with the oil samplings.

If the machine is operated under a high load and/or under high temperature conditions, sample all fluids at the 250 hour interval.

  1. Open the access cover in the rear of the machine.

  2. Remove the protective cap from the sampling valve.

  3. Use 177-8373 Sampling Bottle (Group) and 8T-9208 Probe Assembly in order to obtain a sample.

  4. After you take a sample, remove the cap with the probe from the bottle, if necessary. Discard the cap with the probe. Install the sealing cap that is provided with 169-7372 Fluid Sampling Bottle.

  5. Replace the protective cap on the sampling valve.

  6. Close the access cover.
