RR-250 ROAD RECLAIMER Adjusting The Cutting Depth Caterpillar

Adjusting The Cutting Depth
`
1.1. Starting The Cut

1. With the machine positioned at the start of the cut, close the hood door.
2. Set the automatic/manual cutter depth selector at "Manual".
3. Select the proper combination of rotor transmission gear and axle speed for the desired rotor speed. Normally the best combination for long cutter tooth life and high productivity is obtained with the transmission in low and the axle in high (the second combination shown in the table on the next page).

NOTE: FOUR DIFFERENT ROTOR SPEEDS ARE AVAILABLE BY POSITIONING THE TRANSMISSION AND AXLE SHIFT CONTROLS AS SHOWN BELOW:

4. Set the engine at low idle, engage the power take-off clutch, then set the engine at full speed.

NOTICE

IF THE ROTOR POWER TAKE-OFF IS ENGAGED WITH THE THROTTLE SET HIGHER THAN IDLE, THE ROTOR DRIVE MECHANISM MAY BE DAMAGED.

5. Set the automatic cutter depth selector at "Automatic". The hood and rotor will lower until the hood rests on the ground and the rotor is at the depth previously set.

If engine stalling or shearpin breakage occurs during initial material penetration, it may be necessary to manually lower the rotor to reach operating depth.

6. Move the travel control to cut forward a few machine lengths, then stop the machine.
7. Set the engine at low idle, disengage the power take-off, then STOP THE ENGINE.

------ WARNING! ------

CONTACT WITH THE ROTATING ROTOR COULD CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY. ALWAYS DISENGAGE THE POWER TAKE-OFF CLUTCH AND WAIT UNTIL THE ROTOR HAS STOPPED ROTATING BEFORE WORKING ON OR NEAR THE ROTOR.

------WARNING!--------
8. Note the position of the depth gauge pointer on the depth scale and measure the depth to which the rotor has dug.

NOTE: EACH MARK ON THE DEPTH GAUGE REPRESENTS APPROXIMATELY ONE INCH (2.54 CM).

9. If the cut is not to the depth desired, loosen the locknut and turn the depth adjusting rod until the depth gauge pointer has been moved enough to add or subtract the necessary amount from the initial setting, then tighten the locknut. Moving the adjusting rod in decreases the depth of cut; and moving the adjusting rod out increases the depth of cut.

As an example, if the depth of cut measured in step 8 was 5 inches (12.7 cm) and the desired depth of cut was 8 inches (20.3 cm), the depth gauge pointer would need to be moved to point to a mark 3 inches (7.6 cm) deeper.

NOTICE

DO NOT SET THE DEPTH CONTROL TO A DEPTH BEYOND THE EXTENDED LENGTH OF THE LIFT CYLINDERS OR OVERHEATING OF THE HYDRAULIC OIL AND UNNECESSARY WEAR ON THE HOOD WEAR PLATES MAY RESULT.

10. Repeat steps 2 through 9 until the proper depth of cut is achieved.

Starting The Cut

1. Position the machine at the start of the cut.

2. Adjust the opening of the rotor hood door to obtain proper leveling of the processed material.
3. Set the automatic/manual cutter depth selector at "Manual"
4. Select the proper combination of rotor transmission gear and axle speed for the desired rotor speed.
5. Set the engine at low idle, engage the power take-off clutch, then set the engine at full speed.

NOTICE

IF THE ROTOR POWER TAKE-OFF IS ENGAGED WITH THE ENGINE OPERATING FASTER THAN LOW IDLE, THE ROTOR DRIVE MECHANISM MAY BE DAMAGED.

6. Set the automatic cutter depth selector at "Automatic". The hood and rotor will lower until the hood rests on the ground and the rotor is at the depth previously set.
7. Move the travel control to set the desired speed.
