The Electronic Monitoring System (EMS) consists of an action alarm, action light (1), and monitoring panel (2). The monitoring panel includes an individual indicator light for each machine system that is listed on the panel. The EMS is designed to alert the operator to a problem with one or more machine systems that are monitored.

EMS Functional Test

To ensure the proper operation of the EMS, check the system daily. Turn the engine start switch to the ON position in order to supply electrical power to the systems in the operator compartment.

Test Switch - While the engine is not running, move the test switch upward. All indicator lights should come on and the action light should blink until the test switch is released. The test switch will automatically return to the OFF position when the test switch is released.

Check the electrical system if the action light or any of the indicator lights do not come on. Complete all necessary repairs before you start the engine.

If all of the indicator lights and the action light come on, start the engine. Repeat the test while the engine is running.

If the action light or any of the indicator lights do not come on or the action alarm does not sound, stop the engine. Inspect the system that is indicated as the faulty system. Complete all necessary repairs before you start the engine again.

Warning Categories

The EMS has three warning categories. The first category requires only operator awareness. The second warning category requires a response from the operator. The third warning category requires an immediate shutdown of the machine.

Warning Category 1

In this category, only the indicator light will come on. This indicator light alerts the operator that a machine system needs attention. Failure of these systems will not endanger the operator. Failure of these systems will not cause serious damage to machine components.

Parking Brake (1) - This indicator light indicates that the parking brake is engaged and the transmission is in the NEUTRAL position. The indicator light should come on during engine start-up. The indicator light should go off when the parking brake is disengaged.

Alternator (2) - This indicator light indicates that the alternator is malfunctioning. If this indicator light comes on, stop the machine in a convenient place. Investigate the cause of the malfunction (loose belt, broken belt, etc). Do not operate the machine until the cause of the problem is corrected.

Fuel Level (3) - This indicator light indicates that the fuel level is at 10% of the tank capacity. If this indicator light comes on, refuel within the hour.

Warning Category 2

In this category, the indicator light and the action light will come on. When this occurs, a change in the machine operation is required in order to reduce excessive temperature in one or more of the systems.

Coolant Temperature (4) - This indicator light indicates excessive coolant temperature. If the indicator light and the action light come on, stop the machine in a convenient place. Investigate the cause of the problem. Do not operate the machine if the indicator light stays on and the action light continues to flash.

Hydraulic Oil Temperature (5) - This indicator light indicates excessive hydraulic oil temperature. If this indicator light and the action light come on, reduce the load on the system. If the indicator light stays on, stop the machine in a convenient place. Investigate the cause of the problem. Do not operate the machine if the indicator light stays on and the action light continues to flash.

Transmission Oil Temperature (6) - This indicator light indicates excessive transmission oil temperature. If this indicator light and the action light come on, reduce the load on the system. If the indicator light stays on, stop the machine in a convenient place. Investigate the cause of the problem. Do not operate the machine if the indicator light stays on and the action light continues to flash.

Warning Category 3

In this category, the indicator light and the action light will come on and the action alarm will sound. Immediate shutdown of the machine is required in order to prevent injury to the operator and/or severe damage to the machine.

Coolant Flow (7) - This indicator light indicates that there is no coolant flow to the engine. Stop the machine immediately and investigate the cause of the problem. Do not operate the machine until the cause of the problem has been corrected.

Engine Oil Pressure (8) - This indicator light indicates low engine oil pressure. Stop the machine immediately and investigate the cause of the problem. Do not operate the machine until the cause of the problem has been corrected.

Brake Oil Pressure (9) - This indicator light indicates low brake oil pressure. Stop the machine immediately and investigate the cause of the problem. Do not operate the machine until the cause of the problem has been corrected.

Parking Brake (10) - This indicator light indicates that the parking brake is engaged. Stop the machine immediately and investigate the cause of the problem. Do not operate the machine until the cause of the problem has been corrected.

Transmission Oil Filter (11) - This indicator light indicates that the transmission oil filter is restricted. Stop the machine immediately. Change the transmission oil filter and inspect the transmission oil filter for debris. Debris in the transmission oil filter could indicate a potential failure of the transmission.
