- 1. Push transmission control to NEUTRAL.
- 2. Push parking brake lever forward to apply brakes and lock transmission control in NEUTRAL.
NOTE: The 768 engine can be started with transmission lever in position other than NEUTRAL, but tractor will not move. To release the transmission safety valve move the lever to NEUTRAL for a few seconds, then to desired direction and speed. The 772 will not start when the selector lever is in other than NEUTRAL.
- 3. Move trailing unit control to FLOAT.
- 4. Turn disconnect switch ON.
- 5. Check emergency steering light. If light is on, move emergency steering switch to NORMAL.
- 6. Depress accelerator to just past detent.
Electric Start Above 60°F (16°C)
- 7. Push in and turn switch to START.
- 8. Release switch when engine starts.
If engine does not start after cranking for 10 seconds, switch to HEAT for 30 seconds, then START. If engine still does not start, let starter cool for 2 minutes then repeat starting procedure.
Below 60°F (16°C)
- 7. Push in and turn HEAT-START switch to HEAT for indicated time.
- 8. Push in and turn switch to START. Release switch when engine starts.

When Starting Fluid is Required
- 7. Push in and turn HEAT-START switch to HEAT for indicated time.
- 8. Push in and turn switch to START.
- 9. Spray starting fluid sparingly into precleaner. Spray only while cranking engine.
Use starting fluid sparingly. Follow manufacturer's instructions carefully. |
- 10. When engine starts, it may be necessary to return switch to HEAT until engine runs smoothly.
Starting With Boost
When using jumper cables, be sure to connect in parallel: negative (-) to negative (-) and positive (+) to positive (+). The 772 has an auxiliary cable connector located under the operator's compartment.
Air Start Above 60°F (16°C)
- 7. On 768, press air start button. On 772, push in and turn switch to START.
- 8. Release button or switch when engine starts.
Below 60°F (16°C)
- 7. Push in and turn switch to HEAT for indicated time. On air start 768 Tractors, the HEAT-START switch controls only the glow plugs.
- 8. Press air start button on 768 or push in and turn switch to START on 772. Release button or switch when engine starts. It may be necessary to return switch to HEAT until engine runs smoothly.

Starting With Auxiliary Air Supply
Remove cover and connect auxiliary air supply hose to fitting. Turn valve to open air line. On 768 the coupling is located next to the standard air reservoirs. Do not exceed 150 PSI (10,5 kg/cm2).
