Wear a hard hat, safety glasses and respirator as required by job conditions.

Block raised bulldozer if working in this area.
Don't rush - be careful.
Know the hand signals and who gives them.
Lower equipment and stop engine before servicing.
Preparing to Operate
Report needed repairs.
Be sure safety link is in carry position before moving the Compactor.
Clear obstacles from path of machine - note hazards such as wires and ditches.
Fasten seat belt before operating.
Make certain all safety guards and covers are in place.
Clear personnel from the machine and area.
Start engine only in a well ventilated area.
Be particularly careful on machines you do not usually operate.
Mounting and Dismounting
Do not jump off the machine. Use steps and grab irons.
Stop engine before leaving the machine.
Move all controls to HOLD or NEUTRAL before starting the engine.
Checking Controls
Check all controls for proper operation.
Test brakes.
Listen for unusual noises.
Test right and left steering while moving slowly.
Test engine accelerator.
Check function of safety devices.
Always lower equipment before dismounting.
Look behind machine before backing.
Operating
No riders.
Observe all gauges frequently-investigate improper readings.
Use extra caution in crossing side hills, ridges, ditches and other obstructions.
Stay a safe distance from edge of cliff or overhang.
Know traffic pattern of the job and obey flagmen, road signs and signals.
Keep machine under control - do not try to work machine over capacity.

Stay clear of overhangs, electric wires, slide areas or other danger areas.
Use extreme care to avoid tipping when working on hills, banks or slopes.
Match speed with job conditions - Do not coast.
Know your stopping distance at any given speed. Regulate travel speed accordingly.
Shipping
Remove ice, snow or other slippery material from truck bed and loading dock.
Observe wide loads.
Block and tie compactor securely.
Check with authorities for weight limits and overhead clearances of proposed route.
