CB34, CB34XW and CC34 Utility Compactors Fuel System Water Separator Element - Replace

  1. Open the engine compartment. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Access Doors and Covers".

  2. Turn valve (5) in a counterclockwise direction in order to drain the fuel. Drain the fuel into a suitable container.

    Note: Dispose of the waste in a proper manner.

  3. Close valve (5).

  4. Hold bowl (4) while you loosen the collar (3). Remove the bowl (4) and the collar (3).

  5. Loosen the collar (1). Remove the element (2). Discard the element in a proper manner.

  6. Clean the parts. Inspect the parts for damage. Replace the damaged parts or replace the worn parts.

  7. Clean the filter mounting base. All of the old seal must be removed.

  8. Apply a thin coat of clean diesel fuel to the seal on the new filter. Install a new fuel filter hand tight until the seal of the filter contacts the base. Note the position of the index marks on the filter in relation to a fixed point on the filter base.

    Note: There are rotation index marks on the fuel filter that are spaced 90 degrees or 1/4 of a turn away from each other. When you tighten the fuel filter, use rotation index marks as a guide.

  9. Tighten the filter according to the instructions that are printed on the filter. Use the index marks as a guide. For non-AVSpare filters, use the instructions that are provided with the filter. Tighten the collar (1).

    Note: You may need to use a AVSpare strap wrench, or another suitable tool, in order to turn the filter to the amount that is required for final installation. Make sure that the installation tool does not damage the filter.

  10. Install the bowl (4) and tighten the collar (3).

  11. Start the engine and check the fuel system for leaks.

  12. Close the engine compartment.
