Keep power switch ON anytime control console is on the motor grader.
Use plug located in console to keep hydraulic cylinders retracted for manual operation if console is removed.
Make first pass high enough to trim off high spots and balance material before trying to get down to grade. This may be done manually if grade is rough.
On consecutive passes, grade control can be lowered until final grade is reached. (Amount to be lowered each pass is determined by type of material.)
Keep lift arms as high as practical to reduce possible error, but allow ample travel on lift cylinders. Maximum cylinder rod travel is 14 inches. Approximately 10 to 11 inches of exposed rod allows ample travel.
Get accustomed to feathering out material at the end of every pass.
Avoid making sudden steering or wheel lean corrections when running on automatic.
If heavy load is carried or hard cutting is encountered, a second pass at the same grade setting should be made.
On a finish pass slope and grade meter needles must stay close to zero, inside of the two graduations. On rough work or unstable ground conditions, needle variations will normally be larger. Needle movement means corrections are being made. A large needle variation doesn't necessarily mean a big error. Full needle travel may represent no more than 1/2 inch error at end of blade.
Proper tipping of moldboard is important. Angle desired should be set before going on automatic. Any change in tipping of moldboard while on automatic will change the distance between reference (wire, curb, etc.) and grade being cut.
It is important that tires be kept at recommended pressures. Only tire sizes of equal radius can be used on the machine to maintain original factory adjustments.
Before checking, calibrating or operating Automatic Blade Control, operate as a manual grader for 10-15 minutes. Cycle lift cylinders a few times to warm oil and purge trapped air.
Bank Slope Operation
- 1. Adjust centershift link to shortest position.
- 2. Turn control on the place selector in the manual position. The grade switch should be off.
- 3. With the manual controls, position the blade at the desired bank slope to be cut.
NOTE: The cylinder extend switch can be used to extend the desired cylinder when positioning the blade.

Only the cylinder which has been extended can be controlled by the A B Control. The slope dial must be in the center position before attempting to dial slope. It is possible to overturn the machine if control of the cylinders is not maintained and the machine is on a slope. Accidental loss of control of a cylinder can be corrected by switching the control to the manual position. This will retract the cylinders. |
- 4. With the control selector switch in the manual position, rotate the slope control dial until the slope meter reads zero.
- 5. Move the selector switch to control slope on the end of the blade on which the cylinder is extended and move cylinder extend switch to cylinder ON position. With manual control, move lift arm to a position which will permit cylinder travel.
- 6. After initial positioning of the control, slope changes can be dialed with the slope dial.

- 7. The slope dial is calibrated in ratio of slope, that is, amount of fall in a given distance.
