AUTOMATIC BLADE CONTROL Using Slope And Grade Controls Caterpillar

Using Slope And Grade Controls
`
1.1. Starting Consecutive Passes
2.1. Feathering Material At End of Pass
3.1. Manual Operation
1. Manually raise blade high enough to permit dialing of slope.
2. Position slope and grade selector for slope right and grade left or slope left and grade right as needed.

3. Set desired percent of slope on slope dial.

4. Turn dial right for fall to the right. Dial left, fall left. Bar across hub of dial represents slope of moldboard.

5. Turn slope switch ON. Meter will zero when preselected slope is reached.

6. Lay wand on grade wire, lower wheel or skid shoe to reference surface, using manual controls.

7. Turn grade control dial until grade meter zeros.
8. Turn grade control switch ON.

9. Lower cutting edge with grade control dial until cutting edge contacts ground lightly. Grade meter should read zero.

10. Both lift arm cylinders should be positioned with 10 to 11 inches exposed to minimize chance for error.

11. Move machine slowly until tandems are on surface being cut by motor grader.

Starting Consecutive Passes

1. Move selector switch to the required position.

2. Turn grade control switch ON. Start moving machine slowly. Lower cutting edge with grade control dial until cutting edge matches grade of previous pass.

Feathering Material At End of Pass

1. Material should be feathered at the end of a pass when raising blade to lift wand off wire, or wheel off grade.

2. Move grade control switch through OFF position to HOLD. Switch must be held in the HOLD position.

3. Leave slope control switch ON.

4. Let grade control return to OFF by releasing switch to OFF position for short intervals so that lift cylinders will retract slowly to spread material evenly.

5. Material will be spread so pile will not be left when cylinders have fully retracted.

6. Turn slope control switch OFF.

7. Raise blade with regular controls to obtain MAXIMUM ground clearance.

8. Leave power switch ON.

Manual Operation

NOTE: There are two methods of manual operation

1. With control console removed the control imput cable must be connected to the plug on the mounting bracket.

2. With the console being used, power switch must be ON with the slope and grade selector switch in the MANUAL position.
